You would have to learn about such things as an engine block, and where the thermostat is located. Part has been on order since February 4. My wife's '07 X3 keeps throwing that 0597 code, and I also have a cracked coolant expansion tank. It's still under statuatory warranty, so I hope it's covered. The same one I've been to several times in the past for scheduled maintainence. I might be over concerned though!. First the fan will need to be taken off, then the cowl coveringwill need to be removed.
Thanks to the contributors of this thread I was able to replace both the thermostat and water pump in my 2007 X3. You'll need your bucket to catch the rest of the fluid that will come out when we start disconnecting hoses. These estimates show a range of fair prices for your vehicle and geographic area. . The engine was refined, smooth, quick and quiet!! I've only driven about 8 miles since I replaced it and have absolutely no leaks or seepage that I can find dealing with coolant.
My only tip is to get the large coolant hose back on the thermostat, put a bunch of rags or other padding on the metal cross member, and use that as a fulcrum against your forearm. This part, actually was a little confusing. Everything else remove splash shield, remove cooler hose bolt, remove thermostat bolts literally takes 3 or 4 minutes. The Six Cylinders should be superb when they are available later next year for the X3. The two other ports located at 11 and 2 o'clock are where the hoses with the retaining clips are connected. I removed the bigger hose with retaining clip first and then the two hoses with the hose clamps next.
It's not all that much more than the Prestone at my local auto parts shop. Just remember how you got the clamps off, because you've got to put them back on eventually too. It was really tough to get back on. Wish I knew about this the three times I tried to get the dealer to fix the lack of heat on my 2014 X3. Bearing had to be replaced. It makes removing the quick connect hoses easy, gives better access to the top bolt of the water pump and you can pull the old units out from the top no problem. I saw no need to take the passenger tire off. Doors reported being open and could not be locked. You remove the plastic cowling on the top of the radiator, disconnect the electrical connectors for the air quality sensor on the top drivers side of the fan and the fan itself, remove a couple of screws holding the fan in place and lift it out. Thank you for the steps to replace the thermostat. Is this a high urgency replacement? Second reason was a leaky sunroof that would create mold and stink on sunny days after rainy days. The Work There were only a few things I did differently. Fill coolant to proper level and verify proper temperature management with engine running. I didn't drain the coolant. I can't recall whether or not those hoses gave way.
Initial problem occurred December of 2013. Lightbulb also pulls straight out. Pretty much a thermostat replacement. I declined for them to replace the thermostat since they are designed to fail in the open position. Washer pump motor for front windshield failed and replaced. Don't try removing them both as a single unit.
It does come easy then. I just inserted a small screwdriver into the clip and just pulled the plug out. Is it overheating while sitting at idle? After I figured this out, this gave me enough leverage to pop the hose back on. This is a very tight work space and if you have big hands you will be at a disadvantage.
