This book started out pretty well, with Midnight, a small town in Texas, and its unusual locals, with a series of mysterious suicides at the cross-road, with a fascinating interaction between the characters. There's a reason why witches and werewolves, killers and psychics, have been drawn to this place. Before, they seemed kind of grumpy and as if none of them liked each other, but now I understand, they are all just introverts. She's a geek and a nerd and proud of it. This story focuses on all the loose threads, romantic stirrings and threads from previous books. So after that, the show went out on its own. Midnight is certainly a magical place, and Lemuel Bridger expects to find information on exactly what makes their crossroad of Davy Highway and Witch Light Road so very weird.
I don't exactly have any marketable skills, but look, I can do things, okay? Manfred, almost as small and spare as the Rev, was pierced liberally and with great effect, and lately he had begun getting tattoos. Even more curious, all of these suicidal people seemed to have wronged the resident witch, Fiji, in some way. The witch, a brown-haired woman in her late twenties, was literally well rounded and had lovely skin, at least in part because she kept it protected from the Texas sun. Add in danger, romance, some new arrivals, finding out a few of the town's secrets. Lemuel had a bigger part and we get to see interaction with other vampires. Not a traditional mystery, nor yet pure science fiction or romance, Dead Until Dark broke genre boundaries to appeal to a wide audience of people who simply enjoy a good adventure. The author has always said that the Midnight Texas series was a trilogy, and this was the third book.
